The temples of the sun between Bolivia and Peru

Colonial cities, deserts and mountain ranges, the “essential” part of Bolivia. You will be fascinated by the colonial cities of Sucre and Potosí, and impressed by the salt deserts and their colourful lagoons, seduced by the walk on the snow-covered volcanoes of the Cordillera Real.

Day 1: Arrival in La Paz and transfer to Sucre

At La Paz airport, our staff will assist you to take the direct flight to the city of Sucre, at your arrival you will then be transferred to the hotel with a private vehicle. The rest of the day will be at your disposal to rest and adapt to the altitude.

Day 2: Day in Sucre

You will have the day free to continue the visit of the City of Sucre at your leisure.

Day 3: Visit of Sucre

You will continue visiting the “White City” with a private guide and private transfer. You will discover the Casa della Libertà, a Jesuit building from the 17th century, the Museum of Indigenous Art “ASUR”, which houses fine fabrics, the castle of La Glorieta, and the most important monuments of this enchanting city.

Day 4: From Sucre to Potosi

In the morning, with a tourist bus, you will head to Potosí, an ancient imperial city famous for the extraction of silver from the mines of Cerro Rico. Upon your arrival, you will privately transfer to the hotel and the rest of the day will be free.

Day 5: The Cerro Rico mines

The day will be dedicated to visiting the mines. We will continue until we reach Cerro Rico, where we will enter the heart of the still functioning mine. Accompanied by an experienced miner, you will explore some underground tunnels and see the hard work of these men. Later you will return to the hotel. In the afternoon, a bus will take you to Uyuni, a town located in the heart of the plateau. Upon your arrival, a private transfer will be made to the hotel.

Day 6: In 4X4 from Uyuni to the Laguna Verde

You will leave Uyuni in a 4×4 off-road vehicle to start the adventure: on the way, you will discover incredible places with the “Train Cemetery”, the village of Culpina K and the incredible Colored Lagoon. Continuing the route to the south, you will come to the spectacular geysers of the Sol de Mañana (4.850M). You will stop at the thermal waters of Polques, where you can bathe in the hot springs and enjoy the wonderful surrounding landscape. Afterwards, you will take a walk around the Salata Lagoon and cross the Dali desert. You will then arrive at the White Lagoon and the Green Lagoon, at the foot of the imposing volcanoes of Licancabur and Juriques. You will spend the night at the refuge.

Day 7: Visit the Bolivian lagoons in 4X4

You will visit the Colored Lagoon and in 4×4 with your private guide you will continue north to the beautiful landscapes of the Siloli desert, known for its famous “stone tree”. The route will lead along the Chilean border to the “Jewels’ Road”: the Ramaditas, Honda, Chiarkota, Hedionda and Cañapa lagoons are the sanctuaries of three species of red flamingos. We will continue our journey in the direction of Alota, to move to the refuge.

Day 8: From Salar de Uyuni to La Paz

You will depart from Alota with your private 4X4 guide to San Agustín passing through the village of Juliaca, a ghost town. Then you will arrive at the Salar de Uyuni (3.660M), the largest salt desert in the world. You will make a stop on the island of Incahuasi, of volcanic origin and of millennial giant cacti. You will then head east to reach the city of Uyuni. Upon your arrival, you will have time at your disposal to relax in the hotel; at night, a private transfer will be made from the hotel to the bus station to undertake the journey in the overnight tourist bus to La Paz.

Day 9: Visit to the city of La Paz

You will arrive in the city of La Paz early in the morning, you will be transferred to the hotel in private and you will have the rest of the morning at your disposal. In the afternoon you will visit the city with the private guide: the Gold Museum, the Murillo Square, the witch market, ending with a visit to the colourful local market before returning to the hotel.

Day 10: Arrival in Copacabana and short tour

A tourist bus will take you to Copacabana (on the border between Bolivia and Peru). Once you arrive, you will privately move to the small port of Copacabana. You will make a short guided visit to the temple of Pilkokaina and, subsequently, to Yumani for a short but suggestive walk up to the house of Ismael and Maria, who will welcome you and make you sit in our rooms.

Day 11: La Fuente del Inca and the Tiwanaku site

You will visit Yumani with your private guide. Get off at the “Fuente del Inca” to take a boat that will take you to the temple of Pilkokaina, dedicated to ceremonial rites in honour of the Sun God. In front of you-you will see the Island of the Moon. Once you leave the island, you will return to Copacabana. Then there will be a visit to the Tiwanaku archaeological site. Once in La Paz, our staff will take care of the reception and transfer to the hotel.

Day 12: Tuni and the Chiar Khota Lagoon

Departure from the hotel in a private vehicle to reach the town of Tuni, where the excursion will begin (4 hours) with a private guide. You will embark on a hike to the Condoriri base camp, where you will spend the night in a tent.

Day 13: In the direction of the Wichu Khota Lagoon

You will leave the camp of Condoriri to continue the excursion ( 6-7 hours ) with the guide at the foot of the Colmillo Negro to the Jallayko pass (5.025M). Then you will arrive in the beautiful valley of Jistaña before ascending the Tillipata pass (5.000M). You will then descend to the Wichu Khota Lagoon, where the camp is located at night, located at the foot of María Lloco (5.522M).

Day 14: From Wichu Khota Lagoon to Huayna Potosi

The excursion ( 4-5 hours ) will take you to the encampment of the Santa Fe mine. Then you will walk gradually up to the camp surrounded by the mountains Imilla Apacheta, María Lloco and Huayna Potosí.

The bravest will be able to prolong the excursion of about 2 hours to the glacial lake Huayna Potosí. The path is an old water canal, today dry, built of stone on a mountainside. You will spend the night in camp.

Day 15: From Passo Milluni to Rifugio Campo Canal

At the beginning of the day, you will load the equipment on pack animals together with the guide and begin the excursion ( 4 hours ). By mid-morning you will arrive at the Milluni pass (5.000M), where the valley of the same name will offer a beautiful landscape. You will pass around the left side of the mountain Huayna Potosí reaching a valley that leads to the refuge. Night in Camp Campo Canal.

Day 16: Excursion to Campo Canal

On this day there will be an excursion ( 6 hours ), always with your guide to “Campo de las Rocas”. The first part of the route will be easy, while from Moraine onwards it will be a bit steeper. Once you arrive you will set up the tent.

Day 17: Refuge – Huyana Potosi – La paz

You will leave with your bilingual guide at around 2:00 am. The route (  about 7 hours ) will be quiet up to the plain of the “Campos de Los Argentinos” you will climb on a 3-4m long ice wall to reach the top. Later you will continue to the foot of the final slope: from there you will climb along the right side to the summit, from which you will have a splendid view of the Plateau, the Cordillera Reale and the Illimani. Finally, you will return to La Paz by private vehicle to the hotel.
